Each market day, beloved, local pre-school teacher, Judy Witmer, organizes a children’s table with a carefully designed activity for the youngest members of our community. Judy develops hands-on activities to help educate children about a variety subjects all related to food and farming. Adults learn something too!
The Mercer Island Farmers Market welcomes community service and non-profit organizations that wish to promote their mission and to raise awareness about the services and programs they offer. We do not accept outreach for political or religious purposes. Our priorities include supporting the environment, sustainability, local agriculture, community, health and educational development. We ask that no items be sold.
Every market day at the MIFM, the King County Master Gardeners Program has a booth where they educate customers about plants and gardening best-practices. The program is supported and run by Washington State University Extension. Gordon Polson leads many volunteers who staff the Master Gardener’s booth during the market season
Throughout the season, MIFM offers a tasting table where customers can learn about market produce and products. Some tastings will feature ready-to-eat foods from our vendors with their simple recipes for preparing delicious healthy food at home.
